This garden is a great example of how existing structure and space can be reimagined - to create a truly stunning and restorative courtyard garden, to be enjoyed in peace or with family and friends.

The brief was to create a garden with a Japanese theme, which we wanted to balance with the imposing structure of the historic mews house build.

The garden tells a story, from the upper section where we have a mountain woodland garden and memorial, across an allegorical river, with carefully placed boulders and island plantings - running east to west, and onward into the lush lowlands where the house entrance sits.

Whilst the core structure needed to remain, the existing paving and walls have been restored, the steps rebuilt and new railings added for safety as well as style.

A carefully curated plant palette gives each space a distinct character, from the shady woodland and to the deep palette complementing and lifting the house, many or the plants infused with personal meaning.
In time, the Wisteria and Jasmine will cloak the walls – expanding the garden and providing glorious scent from spring through to autumn. Viburnum x bodnantense Dawn, supported by Sarcococca confusa lift the sprit through the winter months, meaning this small space will bring joy and peace all year round.
