This garden really is the definition of transformation: Transforming a space, but also a lifestyle. It’s still very young, but it’s bringing joy every day.
Before we started, the garden was overlooked from every side, and you could see far too much of the neighbours too. The grass was a soggy mess and the only view was a wobbly fence.
We’ve addressed the extreme privacy issues with 3 layers of trees, supported with deep borders rich in texture and colour all year round – Spring is beautiful here, but in Autumn it will be on fire.
As we move to summer, the heat is turning up with rich pinks and purples. This is all set against a stunning limestone paving, and warm corten steel.
Field maple ‘William Caldwell’ sit either side of the house, to break up the expanse of brick and obscure neighbours views in. The fences will turn a lush and fragrant green as the honeysuckle and hydrangea rise upward.
With seating and entertaining areas in both sun and shade, there is something for everyone, and we have used permeable surfaces in most of the garden to help reduce the increasing challenge of flooding in the area.
Seating, under an archway coated in evergreen jasmine, provides the ideal spot to curl up with a drink and a book, enjoying the views of sculpture rising through swaying grasses.
The new garden has completely transformed the house: from the instant view as you walk through the front door, to the light filling the living room and the privacy from neighbours looking in.
We will be back again as the garden grows – it’s one of the all-time favourites and we can’t stay away – the transformation has been so big.
"I've gone from a boring, wet new build garden that I hated looking at,
To a beautiful garden, which I still can't quite believe is mine.
It has transformed both the garden but also the house inside as well.
I would highly recommend Vicky to anyone redesigning their garden."
